André Forjaz

André Forjaz is a postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, where he completed his PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering under the supervision of Denis Wirtz. He holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. His research focuses on developing digital pathology tools to study tissue changes in 3D. His work led to the discovery that ovarian precancerous lesions are more common than previously thought. He has co-authored 18 scientific papers, including five as first author. André co-founded HOPTEC, an exchange program between Johns Hopkins University and Instituto Superior Técnico.

Rui Costa

Rui Costa is a statistics professional at the World Bank, with experience in the analysis and validation of economic data, particularly price statistics. In recent years, he has contributed to the management of the International Comparison Program, which estimates Purchasing Power Parities at a global level. Previously, he collaborated with the National Statistics Institute in Portugal, also for the Purchasing Power Parities program at a national and European level. He holds a degree from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where he completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees in economics. Outside of work, Rui dedicates himself to the dramatic arts, seeking to establish himself as an actor in the DMV area.
